In advance of our first day of classes, I want to share with you some updates regarding access to our Morningside campus, an issue I know is of great importance to our entire Columbia community. Today, I am announcing three initial steps that are intended to move us progressively toward increasing access to our campus, while giving us the information and capacity we need to continue to do so thoughtfully.

I am delighted to announce my appointment of Michael Andreasen to serve as Columbia University’s executive vice president for university development and alumni relations, effective September 15, 2026.
As many of you are likely aware, in late May, the federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) proposed sweeping revisions to the Uniform Guidance, the rules, governing federal grants and other forms of federal financial assistance. Columbia College and Columbia Engineering are returning to required standardized testing for all first-year and transfer applicants, effective August 2027 for the 2027-2028 admissions cycle.
After a period of consultation and leadership planning, I am pleased to share that Dr. James McKiernan, senior vice dean for clinical affairs at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S) and CEO of ColumbiaDoctors, will serve as interim executive vice president for Health and Biomedical Sciences, CEO of Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), and interim dean of VP&S.
Columbia has completed our notifications to those individuals potentially affected by the 2025 breach of certain University IT systems.
