As a follow up to the statement made yesterday about an academic class on The History of Modern Israel being disrupted, below are actions that have been swiftly taken:
- We are expediting the full investigation of this unacceptable incident including identification of the individuals involved and appropriate disciplinary processes.
- We have modified our security protocols, including requiring CUID swipe for building access on Morningside campus.
- We have mobilized the Public Safety team to prevent future incidents, including identifying and directing additional resources to classes at increased risk for disruption.
- Our University Life team is providing support to students who were impacted by yesterday’s incidents.
- The Provost’s office and our Deans are providing additional support to faculty and instructors on incident management, reporting, and other concerns.
- We are partnering with NYPD to protect our campus, and its external gates and buildings.
Columbia must be a community where we hold people responsible and accountable for their actions. Actions taken to disrupt our classrooms and our academic mission and to intimidate or harass our students are not acceptable and are an affront to every member of our University community.
For students who may need additional support or guidance, please reach out to University Life.
