Update on Resolution of Cloudflare Outage

November 18, 2025

Dear members of the Columbia community,

Earlier today, University websites were affected by issues related to one of our technology vendors, Cloudflare. Cloudflare has notified the University that their services are now operating normally, and University websites and services accessed through our sites are fully operational. Cloudflare also confirmed the root cause of the outage is known and there is no evidence of a cyberattack or malicious activity having caused the issue.

While our sites are now operational, there are residual impacts from the outage. The planned course registration window for this morning was affected by the outage, and as a result, the University Registrar has adjusted the schedule for student course registration for the spring term. Please look for an email communication with updated information on the revised class registration schedule. To our impacted students—thank you for your patience and for accommodating this change.

CUIT will continue to closely monitor all IT services to ensure operability. Members of our community can also contact the CUIT Service Desk (at 212-854-1919 or [email protected]) to ask questions or report an issue.

As a reminder, a complete list of CUIT Service Alerts can be found at cuit.columbia.edu.

Sincerely,

The CUIT Team
