In February 2026, the University shared information regarding steps it was taking to address an admissions irregularity pertaining to a student admitted to the College of Dental Medicine (CDM) in 2012.
Additional questions were raised regarding a subsequent application for admission to a post-graduate program involving the same individual in 2023. An internal investigation into the matter did not reveal an improper admission. The investigation found that the candidate for admission did meet the qualifications and standards for admission to the post-graduate program. However, separate concerns were raised regarding Dr. James Fine’s involvement during the application process given his role as a senior administrator at CDM. Effective June 30, 2026, Dr. Fine will be stepping down from his role of Senior Associate Dean for Postdoctoral Academic and Student Affairs. Dr. George Jenkins will serve as the new Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Dr. Philip Kang will serve as Interim Associate Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs. Dr. Fine remains a member of the faculty and director of the Faculty Practices at the College of Dental Medicine.
