Columbia continues to prioritize engagement with our local community – from Morningside Heights to Harlem, Washington Heights and beyond. We focus on meaningful investments that provide local jobs and economic opportunity, along with sustainable community partnerships built around the University’s intellectual capital and the work of thousands of committed faculty and students who come to Columbia for these opportunities to meaningfully serve their communities.
Many of these commitments are formalized in a Community Benefits Agreement that is on track to invest upwards of $170 million locally, through contributions to state and local government and to a host of community-based organizations. This agreement includes investments in affordable housing, community schools, local parks, and other initiatives.
