A demonstration took place today on the steps of Low Library. The University’s policies regarding pre-notification requirements for protests and demonstrations include April 30 as a pre-notification date. The group gathered did not adhere to the pre-notification requirement for demonstrations today. The University enacted its protocols to manage the demonstration, including deploying University delegates, issuing warnings regarding unauthorized amplified sound, and engaging Public Safety to ask for identification of masked individuals. The demonstration involved approximately 60-80 participants and dispersed after less than two hours. Additionally, a small group of counter-protestors gathered; delegates engaged with this group, and they also dispersed after less than two hours.
As we approach the end of the semester, it is especially important that pre-notification policies are followed to prevent disruption to the University’s academic activities and events.
