Dear members of the Columbia community,
As the investigation continues into the tragic events at Brown University, our thoughts are with the Brown community and all those affected by this terrible event. We also want to keep our community fully informed about our public safety posture. While there are no specific indications of an increased risk to the Columbia community, our Public Safety team continues to work closely with our NYPD partners, who have increased additional safety measures around all of New York City.
Out of an abundance of caution, required CUID-swipe access will be restored to buildings on the interior of Morningside campus beginning today. Our campuses have been, and will remain, restricted to CUID-holders and registered guests, including entrances to academic buildings from public streets. All residential halls, libraries, labs, and other specialized facilities have and will continue to require CUID access.
Many in our community have additional concerns following the horrific shooting in Sydney, Australia earlier today. Additional security measures will also be deployed this evening to support celebrations marking the first night of Hanukkah, and throughout the week.
Please contact the Public Safety team immediately should you become aware of anything concerning or unusual. Please also make sure you have installed the LionsSafe app, signed up for CU emergency alerts, and reviewed Public Safety’s emergency response protocols.
Public Safety can be reached at the following numbers:

Sincerely,
Columbia University Facilities and Operations Team
