Important Reminders for Reading Week and Finals

May 05, 2026

With the official end of classes and the start of reading and exam days, the University is sharing some important reminders for the final two weeks of the spring semester:

  • Low Library Rotunda will be open for study days beginning May 11 through May 14, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm.
  • University Libraries have implemented extended hours as follows:
    • Butler Library – Open 24/7
    • SEL in NWC – Now open until 3am. Starting May 6, open 24/7.
    • Lehman Library in IAB: Open until 3am.
    • Uris Library: Open until 3am
  • Columbia Housing’s 24-hour quiet policy is now in effect. Residents should be considerate of their noise levels and be prepared to reduce sounds that are intrusive or impactful to community members who are preparing for finals. Any noise that can be heard outside of a room or suite is considered intrusive. If a roommate/suitemate or neighbor refuses to cooperate with a request to lower volume levels, a student is encouraged to contact the RA of their floor or the RA on-duty.
  • Please keep in mind that this is a time to be generally mindful and respectful of noise levels in order to support students as they prepare for exams.
  • The University’s pre-notification guidelines for protests and demonstrations are also in effect. Pre-notification allows for advance planning to help balance everyone’s right to free expression with the University’s responsibility to maintain a campus environment conducive to learning and scholarship.
  • For students graduating this semester, please consult the Columbia Commencement website for the latest information about Commencement and a check-list for all graduates. Class Day information can be found on your school’s specific website.

Good luck on finals!
