A two-hour workshop featuring presentations from four information designers and graphics editors. The presenters cover key insights on creating complex illustrations that support and enhance ideas, vision and research for medical practitioners. This workshop is part of the Visualizing Science webinar series, and it took place on August 11, 2022.
Nicoletta Barolini is the Art Director/ Science Visualizer in the Office of Communications and Public Affairs. Nicoletta works with Columbia faculty and staff to create complex illustrations, digital paintings, animations, and infographics that support and enhance ideas, vision, and research.

Mark M. Miller: In 1991, Mark established Miller Medical Illustration in Kansas City, Missouri, which he continues to run as the sole-proprietor. In 2013, he joined the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in KC, where he is also employed on a part-time basis as Scientific Illustrator.

Mandy Root-Thompson: With a background in advertising, marketing, education, and biological and anatomical sciences Mandy works with medical, legal, and scientific professionals to communicate complex information to a lay audience in the form of patient and consumer education materials and demonstrative exhibits.

Todd Buck: In 1990, he founded Todd Buck Illustration LLC where he has since been creating illustrations for national and international publications. Todd is also a Professor of Illustration at the School of Art and Design at Northern Illinois University.
