Higher Education Associations

Columbia University is a member of numerous organizations which represent the interests of the higher education community in Washington, Albany, and beyond. More information on some of the organizations in which we participate can be found below.

Higher Education

In 1900, Columbia was among the founding members of the AAU which today is comprised of the 62 leading public and private research universities in the United States and Canada. AAU focuses on issues of importance to research-intensive universities, including funding for scientific research, research policy, and undergraduate and graduate education. www.aau.edu

The nation’s largest higher education organization of nearly 1,800 member institutions representing all types of U.S. accredited, degree-granting institutinos: two year and four-year, public and private. www.acenet.edu 

Association of nearly 1,000 member institutions representing the country’s private, nonprofit colleges and universities. NAICU’s policy focus is on issues affecting student aid, tax policy, and government regulation. www.naicu.edu 

Association of research universities, affiliated medical centers, and independent research institutes advocating in the areas of research administration and compliance, financial oversight, and intellectual property. www.cogr.edu 

Association of nearly 20,000 student financial aid professionals from approximately 3,000 colleges, universities, and career schools promoting student access and success in higher education. www.nasfaa.org 

Membership organization representing over 2,100 college and university chief business and financial officers to advance the economic vitality, business practices and support for higher education institutions in fulfillment of their missions. www.nacubo.org 

Coalition of 77 higher education organizations dedicated to preserving and enhancing federal student financial aid. www.studentaidalliance.org

Scientific Research

A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization of more than 50 of the nation’s leading research universities dedicated to sustaining the federal government’s investment in basic scientific research as a means to stimulate the economy, spur innovation and drive America’s global competitiveness. www.sciencecoalition.org
