Clip Report

A newstand on a city steet

The Office of Public Affairs produces curated “clip” reports with highlights from news media in which Columbia affiliates provide expertise or opinion. The faculty, researchers, students, and staff of Columbia University are constantly engaged with the world around them. Their scholarship, analysis, and commentary are highly sought after by the media, and this is reflected in press coverage by local, national, and international sources.

Press coverage is an important aspect of communications for every academic discipline and service endeavor, increasing paths to understanding and meaningful engagement by audiences. Each of Columbia’s undergraduate and professional schools, its many institutes and centers, its leadership, its community projects, and many other aspects of service are all the subject of ongoing press coverage.

In addition, as an institution, Columbia is the subject of many press citations, by virtue of its position as a leading research university globally, as well as a member of the Ivy League. That press coverage documents the many different activities of the University’s involvement in the City of New York, New York State, the United States, and the world.

Three times each week, Public Affairs researches, assembles, and distributes a curated “clip” report with about five to ten selected highlights from hundreds of recent citations in print, broadcast, streaming, and other online media. This report is an overview of news about timely issues and topics; it is not intended to provide an exhaustive review of all news sources. We strive to present a cross-section of news that is informative, insightful, far-reaching – and sometimes fun or surprising.
